Environment Dept. Volunteers Day Planting Dec 2016

The annual volunteer day organised by Julia from the Environment Dept. took place last weekend to help plant 4 x hedgerows as part of our ongoing Hedgerow Campaign. Despite the sudden onset of mist, around 20 volunteers turned up, spades in hand. After a thorough briefing and demo from our resident arboriculturist Conrad Evans, they soon set about digging and planting various native species of hedging whips as well as trees, including Elder, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Wild Cherry, Oak and Hazel. In the space of two hours the team managed to complete approx 280! Afterwards another volunteer provided everyone with a well deserved cuppa plus some delicious home-made cakes.
Well done to all who attended and gave up some of their valuable time on a sunday to help encourage more biodiversity to our beautiful island.
